1UP USA — RakAttach XL
The RakAttach XL is the heavy-duty evolution of 1UP USA's popular hitch carrier. With a 375-pound load capacity — 100 lbs more than the standard version — it handles fully loaded bike racks, cargo carriers, or both. The powder-coated steel construction pivots up to 90 degrees on either side for unobstructed tailgate access.
A wedge-style anti-wobble mechanism secures the mount within any standard 2-inch receiver, and an included support jack adds stability for heavier loads. The optional Accessory Panel System adds MOLLE-compatible panels for organizing traction boards and tools, plus a fold-down table for trailside cooking.
MSRP: $899
Boondock Decks — Flat Decks and Truck Boxes
Squamish, BC-based Boondock Decks brings Canadian-built flat deck and subframe systems designed for overland and work-ready trucks. The open, modular platform eliminates the limitations of traditional truck beds, providing a reinforced surface for hauling gear, mounting campers, or building custom overland setups. Precision-fit storage boxes integrate flush into the deck structure, offering secure, weather-resistant storage for tools and recovery gear. Boondock Decks will exhibit at Overland Expo West in Flagstaff from May 15-17.
MSRP: Varies by application
Giant Mouse Knives — GMF1-XL Green Canvas Knife
The GMF1-XL features a 3.47-inch drop-point blade in N690 Cobalt steel with a fine stonewash finish. Green canvas micarta scales provide a moisture-resistant grip and can be removed for a skeletonized profile. Winner of the 2024 Blade Show Best Fixed Blade award. Ships with a handcrafted Italian leather sheath.

Summer Gear for the Road Ahead
This month's Gear Showcase spans the full spectrum of overlanding — from a $245 pocket knife to a $288,000 expedition vehicle. Whether you're re-gearing a Jeep for bigger tires, adding solar storage to your rig, or looking for the perfect hitch carrier for your bikes, the common thread across these eight products is build quality and real-world durability.
Many of these products will be on display at Overland Expo West in Flagstaff (May 15-17) and at subsequent events in Redmond (June 27-29) and Virginia this fall.
WOLFBOX Take: The Upgrade That Makes the Rest Usable
Look closely at this list and a pattern jumps out: a 375-pound swing-away hitch carrier stacked with bikes, Boondock flat decks piled with gear, a Kimbo truck camper, a $288,000 Sprinter box — nearly every product here adds capability by adding stuff behind you. Each one is great. Each one also erases your rear view. It's the blind spot no gear showcase ever features, and it's the one that makes a loaded rig sketchy to back up, merge, or reverse down a trail.
Before the hitch carrier and the camper go on, it's worth adding the cheap upgrade that keeps all of them usable — a rear view the build doesn't take away.
- See past the carrier and the camper. A WOLFBOX smart rearview mirror camera replaces the blocked glass mirror with a live feed from a rear camera mounted outside the load, so a stacked hitch rack or a truck camper no longer means a blind tailgate.
- Add the low view for the terrain. If you're re-gearing for bigger tires like that 5.13 Jeep package, the 3-channel WOLFBOX G900TriPro (Bumper Version) adds a low bumper camera to see the obstacles those tires are for.
- Setting up a rig? Our guide to the best dash cam for off-road covers channels and mounting for trucks, campers and overland builds.
FAQ
Does a hitch cargo carrier or bike rack block your rear view?
Yes — a loaded hitch carrier sits directly in the rearview mirror's line of sight. A streaming mirror dash cam restores the view with a live feed from a rear camera mounted above or outside the load.
What overland gear was shown at the May 2026 Overland Expo Gear Showcase?
Eight products: the 1UP USA RakAttach XL hitch carrier ($899), Boondock Decks flat decks, the Giant Mouse GMF1-XL knife ($245), the Kimbo 6 truck camper (from $27,990), the Midland MXT115P PRO GMRS radio ($239.99), a Revolution Gear Jeep JL/Gladiator 5.13 re-gear kit ($1,201.99), the Solar Energy Systems Elevation 300Ah battery ($1,399), and the Wander Voyager Sprinter AWD expedition vehicle ($288,000).
What's the most overlooked overland upgrade?
Rear visibility. Most overland upgrades — hitch carriers, campers, decks, spare tires — add weight behind you and block the mirror, so a mirror dash cam that restores the rear view is one of the highest-value, lowest-cost additions to a built rig.
